This is the only photo of me that I even come close to liking. It was taken about three decades ago while I was out on a multi-day trip exploring the mountains with a friend. When I recently found this photo, I was trying to remember what the whole beard thing was about. I recall I was just tired of shaving. As a mountaineering instructor and was spending days at a time in the mountains without being able to shave, so I just let it grow. Shaving each time after 4 or 5 days in the mountains was just a pain. I have long ago given up a beard.

In July of 2025, at the age of 73, I was honored when two young friends were kind enough to accompany me on a mountaineering adventure in the North Cascades. I was moved by their kindness. I’m on the left traversing a snowfield. The young woman, standing in the sunlight on the trail was one of the two people who walked with me. I can’t thank them enough for their support. They were my strength. Every year I’m a little less able to to travel in to the backcountry I so love.

I’m just not done yet.

I taught rock climbing and mountaineering for 10 years before I began working in educational video. Following that experience, I became a Senior Producer for the regional division of a national media company.

I have always loved photography, particularly images of the natural world. Recently I decide to share some of them.
